Thanksgiving 2005 and Iraq 2108

This was a bittersweet Thanksgiving for Ex-Fed. My mother passed on last month and I am feeling very lonely without her to spend the holidays with us with this year. I do have my wonderful family to give me support and comfort but there is still that large void that will remain empty.

Ex-Fed and the family went over to my nephew's house in Virginia yesterday to have Thanksgiving with the 4 of them and also my sister and her chubby hubby from Florida. Even without Mom, it was a very enjoyable afternoon and evening. The turkey was excellent, great mashed potatoes, Brussell sprouts with onion and bacon, stuffing, and sweet potato casarole. Three kinds of pie (pumpkin, apple, and pecan) finished the meal. A few bottles of wine made the dinner just perfect.

Naturally, Ex-Fed has a lot to be thankful for.

I keep seeing stickers on cars saying "Support Our Troops". Our troops in Iraq should be supported by bringing them home NOW! That is how we can show our ultimate support. I saw in the paper this morning that the war in Iraq has claimed 2,108 American lives. I have been down to Walter Reed Medical Center and have seen the maimed soldiers who have been sent there to recover from amputations that are war related. I strongly feel that President Bush, VP Cheney, Condi Rice, Rumsfeld, and the rest of the Cabinent should go to Walter Reed EVERY WEEKEND and visit these soldiers - and explain the reality of missing arms and legs for the rest of their lives. The Iraqi citizens do not want Americans occcupying their country. There is a civil war going on between the "religious" factions and the US does not belong there.

I have seen signs in yards and bumper stickers that state, "WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER". Maybe the question to that answer is, "WHICH IS BETTER, WAR OR PEACE?"

I usually say some positive thing about RETIREMENT in my entries. My message today is RETIRE NOW AND WORK FOR PEACE.
