More Snow - More Thoughts

Hey, what is it with this crazy weather? Here in the Washington, DC, area it is supposed to be getting warm the first week of March - but we got more SNOW yesterday. It was publicized or promoted by the television stations a couple of days early saying we would have a major snowstorm with up to 18 inches of snow all over the region. In reality - after closing public
schools in all the Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia counties - the snowfall amounted to around 3 inches. Not too bad at all. The snow plow operators and the salt/sand truck drivers really made out like bandits with all the overtime they received from the public funds.

Ex-Fed did not mind at all since I was snug at home most of the time. I am working on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through March before going back into RETIREMENT. This gives me long weekends and chances to do my weekend errands on weekdays when the crowds are not so big. The bank is a good example of this. I have to go to the bank to deposit my paycheck - since the hiring company will not direct deposit it for me. On a Saturday, the lines at the bank are really long - and at the branch I go to - 98% of the customers are Hispanic. This really does disturb me somewhat since I know a good percentage of them are illegal immigrants and nothing is done to catch and deport them. However, a good thing is that they willingly work at jobs that not too many will work at - and I never see Hispanic panhandlers on the streets of DC. I never see Asian panhandlers, either.

So, on my day off yesterday, I did some things I have been putting off just for lack of time. I got a haircut (still all natural brown) and got the oil changed in my Lexus. I had called the Lexus dealer and asked what they did for the 50K checkup. Basically, it was change the oil, change the oil filter, rotate the tires, and a new air filter. The cost is $249. I took my car to Jiffy Lube where they did the oil change, oil filter and new air filter for $35. I will have the tires rotated soon at the gas station. Jiffy Lube did find a leak in the main transmission seal and recommended I take it to a gas station to have the gasket replaced. They said it would be costly. Well, I took the car to the Lexus dealer as it is under warranty for 3 years bumper to bumper and they are going to fix it - and give me a loaner Lexus for the day - this Friday.
Ex-Fed does pretty good most of the time!

It is past my lunchtime now so I have to get back to work and continue earning the big consulting bucks of a Beltway Bandit.
